About

I’m only halfway home I gotta journey on
To where I’ll find the things that I have lost
I’ve come a long long road still I’ve got miles to go
I’ve got a wide wide river to cross.

Welcome to “Halfway Home” and thanks for swinging by.  This little blog is meant to take us on journeys into the mythic America that sometimes exists in reality but all too often exists in our cultural memory.  Like sharing our old back porch stories with each other, “Halfway Home” collects the stories of Americana from the farms of Arkansas to the stoops of New York City – from the frontier lives of South Dakota ranchers to the riverboat captains on the Mississippi.  We tell our tales here through music, photography, filmed interviews and simple storytelling.

“Halfway Home” was founded by Joanna Colangelo, a New York City transplant to New Mexico. Over the years, Joanna has traveled America countless times over – by car, bus and train – and, on occasion, piloting small planes over the red rocks of Arizona and above the smooth waters of the Pacific Ocean.  When she’s not hosting “Halfway Home,” Joanna fundraises for a national non-profit organization, travels as much as possible into the nooks of the country, contributes music blogs for No Depression, speaks at conferences and writes for the Columbia Journal of American Studies. She holds a BA and MA in American Studies.
